Turkey Crossing March 2011

Summer is here

Yay! Summer has arrived. With that the humidity is begining to move in and so its nice in a way not feel all dry. Im working most of the time through summer which is fine. Work is good. However we are working on putting up a fence around the back yard and landscapng the back yard to where we dont have to mow as much. We've planted our garden which will consist of Zucchini, Spaghetti squash (my fav) and tomatoes and peppers. Also plan on enjoying some nice flowers. I'll post pictures as the summer progresses. I plan to hopefully stay more in tune with this than last year. Ok, wish me luck with that.

January 2011

Well our winter this year hasnt been all that bad. We havent had so much snow that we are complaining but we have had enough to cover the ground a few times. The good thing about Kansas is that the temperatures do climb enough to melt whatever white stuff is there.
Besides that my husband lost his pet parrot of almost 8 years in January and it was the most heart breaking thing ever. I suppose now we will go and buy another one. Pets are such dear things to us and it is amazing just how close we get to each of them. I did manage to get a Chihuahua puppy in November and he is a little fiest of a dog.
Ive been doing some geneology research this month. I have been working on family things for a few years now. I take a break from time to time but have just recently started it up again. I think this year I will take a trip to DesMoines where I can do some more hands on research. Finding out about your family members can really help you learn about the lives they lived.

Cat tails in October

Well here it is fall (Thank goodness). The searing heat is away for another year. It was just too hot in Kansas this summer and my tomatoes thought the same thing. Now we get to look forward to all the holidays (once we get past the candy one of course).. and head on into Thanksgiving and Christmas. I look forward to the delicious food, cooler temps, and burning wood making the house all cozy.
This fall will be somewhat relaxed for me then starting in January back to school to get my teacher certification for the state of Kansas. (Kansas denied my Florida license)... so.... its all good but I shall cherish the relaxed time I will have through the holidays. I cant wait to start taking pictures of the area as we prepare for Old Man Winter. Its all very good and today I started by making a huge pot of chili! Mmmmm

Old Window

I am transforming this old window into a nice window. It needs a little work on the sides due to an AC being in it. I took the AC out and going to enjoy looking out. This house was built around the turn of the century and has the old sash windows. A lot of the storm windows are long gone and screens as well. I"m going to try to round some up but not sure that can be done. At any rate, they are really neat.. atleast until I can get some new windows bought.

Kansas Limstone

Nothing like a little Kansas limestone to make a great waterfall.

My big Tom Cat "Max"

This is our cat "Max" He is quite the guy!

Some Antiques

Here is a picture I took with my cell phone because the batteries are dead in my camera. Its not the best picture but I wanted a picture of the old pie safe on my blog. It was built with square nails so it dates to the 1800's. This Pie Safe was actually found in an old abandoned house and the owner did not want it. It has been in a flood as the top is warped and you can see a water line about midway up. I wish the old thing could talk. What a neat story it would tell us.

The high chair I bought in Panama City, Florida but was told it came from Kentucky. Thats all I know about it. The Buffet came from Sheridan Wyoming and has been a wonderful piece and has such a nice beveled mirror on the back.

September 1st - Frog in pond on hot summer late afternoon

This is a frog that I managed to catch just chillin in mom and dad's pond. He didnt seem to bothered. I think he was just cooling off. This picture was taken about a month ago when the temps were up there in the 100's. Today, is a wonderful 66 so far. A lot of rain in the area here in Kansas but I dont think we are going to get anything. I believe the high today is going to be in the 80's and rain or no rain.. I'll take it. Our tomatoes have been a huge disapointment due to the heat. My peppers have done a little better but still nothing to really brag about. Last year was a much better year for the garden.

August 31, 2010

Well its the end of August and its still hot! I think next week the temps are supposed to remain in the 80's and lower 90's for awhile. September can be funny so we'll see. Other than that, just painting still on the house. I plan to get the living room painted this week. That will be the last room over haul for awhile. We still have to work on the bathroom but its an ongoing project anyhow. Well thats it for today. I will make another post tomorrow as we head into Fall.

July 16th

Well not much to write about here lately. Its going to be another 100 degree day here in Kansas and its pretty humid right now. I"m ready for the weekend. Last weekend we painted the dining room and it looks really good. I'm not sure I want to start painting the living room just yet. I've got some more to do in the dining room before I move on. I"m sure I will find something to do this weekend. This house always needs something but it has come a really long ways.

Well today was not as hot as other parts of the United States. We have had some nice cool nights too. I'm anxiously waiting for my tomatoes to turn red. Here is a picture of some nice green ones. I think in a few days I'm going to be able to pull off a zucchini and fix up some fried zucchini. I may in fact tomorrow pull off some green tomatoes and fixe some fried green tomoatoes too. Yummy.

Blooming Cactus

What is Underemployment?

Well, we all wonder, what exactly is underemployment? Is it playing farmville every morning and some games of family feud then off to your part time afternoon job? Yep, pretty much! According to Wikipedia its anyone that is highly skilled working in a low wage job or involuntary part time workers. I think it pretty much explains it there for you. Its someone that holds high quality skills for which there is low market place demand. The definitions go on and on and a person could literally keep their self busy FULL TIME just reading about what underemployment really is.
Now I'm not saying I'm some super high qualified individual but I think I can handle a decent full time job, but wait........ there would have to be someone hiring for that first. Anyhow, my blogs are going to be about people that cant seem to get where they want to be and what they are doing now instead of working full time. I'm interested in the average JOE and what life is like now beyond .... underemployment!
I am going to start posting pictures of what life is like for me now.... I"m not complaining... its just different I suppose.

June 30th 2010

Well I'm excited about the fourth of July weekend. I will hang the flag, watch fireworks, and no doubt barbeque some dogs on the grill. It will be hot I'm sure so getting through the day with out using the air conditioner is half the fun. I cant afford to run my air conditioner becaue I'm UNDEREMPLOYED!
On a different note, I suppose I will go in to my part time job today and get some work done. I really enjoy my part time job, just wish it was more money. Oh well, no sense in going on about that. I have applied for a few jobs but no response. I"m sure they get hit with 1,000 resumes every week. I dont look for other work as hard as I should as it would just end up wearing me out and really..... to be honest... keeps me from doing something else constructive.... like stuff around the house.
Yep, I do things around the house I never used to do. I used to be so much busier with FULL TIME JOBS that I couldnt do a lot of extra in the home. Well, that has for sure changed. I dont mind it really, but I do wish I could find something else as far as employment goes. I 'm sure I will eventually. I mean everything comes around EVENTUALLY!
